JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Pharmacy Officer 
TEAM/PROGRAMME: PDQ   LOCATION: Yobe
GRADE: 4   CONTRACT LENGTH: 1 Year
CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 
Level 3:  the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: 
In compliance with SCI’s standard practices and protocols, ensure good pharmacy distribution practices including storage; supply; distribution; and rational use of drugs, to ensure its effectiveness and operational availability in collaboration with the health and logistics team.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General

Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
Ensures that Save the Children supply chain procedures and policies are implemented and adhered to.

Management of Medical Storage and Supply Chain
•   Manage the medical warehouse, optimizing medicine storage conditions and organization to ensure the safety and effectiveness of drugs and medical supplies.
•   Responsible for ordering medical products and supplies from SCI-supported facilities in collaboration with the health and nutrition team.
•   Ensure good storage practices of medical products across the SCI-supported health facilities.
•   Coordinate with the health and nutrition team to ensure the rational use of medical products at SCI-supported health facilities.
•   Ensures daily update of bin cards and stock cards; supplies are released with approved stock release formats and proper documentation.
•   Ensures high-quality standards of health commodity management are met including Good Distribution Practices – which will include warehousing, cold chain management, stock rotation and control, pipeline management, consumption monitoring and ordering.
•   Responsible for field-based consumption reporting is completed in a timely manner and advised on rational use of medicines based on this.
•   Ensure accurate reporting of drug movement stocks and consumption.
•   Responsible for safe disposal of expired drugs and medical supplies, working with the Regulatory Authority where applicable.
•   Ensuring a safe and accurate dispensing process and patients are counselled on how to take prescribed treatment providing capacity building where required.
•   Monitors medication safety across the primary health care teams and Stabilization centre.
•   Oversees medication use in the field.
•   Responsible for pharmacovigilance 
•   Register the Pharmacy Warehouse with PCN using his/her License.
•   Carry out any other tasks as required in line with the technical area.
Specific management of the cold chain
•   Assure the daily monitoring of the good storage conditions according to the SCI standards.
•   Display the content on the Fridge door.
•   Follow strictly the contingency plan in case of cold chain breakdown.
•   Maintain the temperature between 2-8 OC.
•   Ensure the strict respect of the packaging procedure for the transport in passive cold chain.

Essential
Minimum of BSc in Pharmacy with a valid license to practice 
Two years of related experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experience of medical supply chain management
Experience working with INGO.
Flexible, positive, and proactive approach to work
Written and spoken English.
Desirable
Ability to work in and maintain a positive team dynamic in insecure environments.
Demonstrate ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
